IB Pre-K Survey

December, Mon 22, 2014 - Sage International

We are asking for ALL Sage families and staff to please complete the following short survey - only one question if you do not have younger children - IB Pre-K Survey

POSSIBLE SAGE IB PRE-K PROGRAM – All Family Survey

With generous support from the JA and Kathryn Albertson Foundation, Sage International is able to consider expanding our IB PYP curriculum to include a Pre-K offering – either next year or the following year.  We hope to fill a Pre-K program with the children of existing Sage families and staff members.  Given that, our first step is to survey our staff and families to gauge community interest in such a program at Sage International. The survey will be available through the first week of January. We look forward to your survey responses and to exploring this exciting possibility for our community.

ABOUT IB PRE-K AT SAGE - Our Current Thinking

IB’s Primary Years Program (PYP) begins at age 3 and extends through 5th grade. Because Sage International begins at Kindergarten (age 5), we are not taking full advantage of IB’s PYP curriculum despite being an IB Authorized World School for PYP.  Sage International’s leadership felt that expanding our PYP curriculum to include an IB Pre-K Program would be an innovative addition to our school, would improve our school’s academic performance, and would provide a valued service to our community. The state does not fund Pre-K programming. Hence, our program would be a tuition-based program with the price set after completing a market analysis of the Boise area.

We aim to fill the Pre-K program with children of existing families and staff. Due to the lottery preference awarded staff/sibling children (per state statue), while we can’t guarantee kindergarten enrollment, we are confident these Pre-K students would then be offered one of the 66 Kindergarten seats we have open each year (22 half day, 44 full day).

The Pre-K program being considered (subject to change based on survey results and other factors) would be composed of a single class of 22 – 28 students that are one or two years from entering kindergarten – 3, 4 and 5 year olds.  The class would have two teachers and be located in the ‘little’ Parkcenter building with our Kindergarten and 1st grade classes. Our PYP Coordinator would help develop the IB Pre-K curriculum.

We will provide further information when we have it available!
