Back to School Welcome from Sage Board of Directors

August, Mon 22, 2016 - Sage International

Sage International Community,

Welcome to an exciting year at Sage. For returning staff members, students and families - welcome back. For our new staff, students and families - welcome to our Sage family. We hope your summer was relaxing, enriching and restorative. As we start the school year, here are a few ’back to school’ thoughts we wanted to share with the community.

This year we fulfill our vision of having our entire Sage Community on a single, unified campus owned by Sage International.  Just seven years ago, we opened our doors with 220 K-7th graders in what is now our K-1st building. This year we welcomed 1,000 K-12th students to our new 8-acre, 96,000 SF facility. We’ve come a long way. We want to express a special ‘thank you’ to our amazing and patient staff who have moved, moved and moved again. We know moving classrooms is a lot of added work and we are grateful for all you do for Sage.

Having our entire team of administrators and educators together will strengthen our Sage culture, create invaluable collaboration opportunities, and solidify our K-12th IB continuum. As Sage completes it’s MYP candidacy this year, we will become the only school in the United States to offer a free, public, K-12 IB education with all four IB Programmes - PYP, MYP, DP and CP.  And, we will do so from a single campus with 70+ IB-trained educators working to support each other and our students.  We can’t wait to see the results.

Last week we welcomed 1,000 students back to school. This included 80 new-to-sage Kindergarteners and many new students spread throughout 1st-11th grades. We opened the doors on 55,000 square feet of new school space. We welcomed high schoolers to our Parkcenter campus.  We added two additional bus routes. We put in place a new administrative structure that includes a K-12 Principal supported by Elementary, Middle and High School Directors. We also put the finishing touches on our K1 building remodel. That was a lot of ‘new’ for our Sage Community to manage. Overall, week one went very well and it was wonderful to have our halls filled with our IB Learners.  Our administrative team is identifying where we still have work to do and will adapt accordingly. End-of-day pick-up is one area where we will continue to improve and need everyone’s patience and cooperation to move students on/off campus safely and quickly.  With patience and teamwork, we will get there.

Sage International is fortunate to have an active and supportive PTO, the Sage Community Network (SCN). If your family is new to Sage, reach out to the SCN for information and support, they will welcome you with open arms into our Sage family. All families, please contact the SCN for opportunities to volunteer at Sage. Thank you SCN for all you do to support our school. Thank you for helping us launch our successful lunch program through Life’s Kitchen. Thank you for organizing the fantastic Back to School Social and Information Night last week.  Thank you for the monthly Teacher Appreciation Lunches. Together, we are doing great things for kids.

We welcome our Sage community to join us this Tuesday evening, August 23rd at 6:45 PM for a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially acknowledge the completion of our campus. We will gather at the new main entrance between 6:45 PM and 7:00 PM with the official ribbon cutting at 7:00 PM.  Following the ribbon cutting, attendees may tour the building. Many of the individuals that made Sage International possible will be in attendance: Past and current board members, representatives of the JA and Kathryn Albertson foundation, Building Hope, Banner Bank, BLUUM, GUHO CORP, Erstad Architects, the Idaho Charter School Network, and many others.

We look forward to a great Fall term at Sage. The Board and Administration will continue to focus on supporting our educators and staff and will work to maintain an open and collaborative dialogue with our Sage community.  Working together, we will continue to refine and improve Sage over the course of the school year and into the future.

Thank you,

Sage International School of Boise Board of Directors
