2015/2016 Graduate Information & Student Testing Summary

August, Fri 26, 2016 - Sage International

In June, we celebrated Sage International’s first graduating class of twelve students. It was an honor to recognize these young adults as our first graduates. Many of the graduates arrived at Sage as 7th graders in Sage’s first year.  At that time, Sage was only chartered to run through the 8th grade. Sage then expanded to include high school and received its Diploma Programme authorization from the IB Organization just in time for these students to participate. These students truly blazed the trail for all future Sage graduates. We are incredibly proud of them and their accomplishments.

Of the twelve graduates, five earned the full IB Diploma.  Another five graduates sat for IB exams and earned IB Certificates in individual courses.  Nearly every college and university in the United States (and globally) offers favored admission status, scholarship opportunities, and/or college credits to applicants with these IB credentials on their transcript. These are fantastic results for our first graduates.

Following is a list of the colleges and universities where Class of 2016 graduates were accepted. The schools the graduates chose to attend are highlighted in bold.

As of late July, we have all of our 2016 academic testing results.  Again in 2016, Sage students tested very well when compared to their Idaho peers and when compared to students across the United States and internationally.  Credit for these excellent results goes to our hardworking team of educators, our students, and our Sage families.

SAT: Sage International 11th graders (this year’s 12th graders) ranked 3rd in Idaho in SAT scoring with an average score of 1143.  This ranking is out of 180 Idaho high schools, placing Sage students in the top 1.6% of Idaho 11th graders. The two schools ranked above Sage are Renaissance High School, a magnet school in the Wed Ada District that offers the IB curriculum, and the Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, which until recently, offered the IB curriculum. These SAT results show that Sage students are well-prepared for college success.

PISA: The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) standardizes and evaluates academic results of thousands of schools in over 70 countries providing insight into how Sage students perform academically compared to US schools and internationally. The PISA is taken by 15 year olds across the globe.  In 2016, 54 Sage students participated in the PISA exam. Sage students scored in the top 7-10% of US schools in all three testing areas - math, reading and science. Sage’s results are scored as ‘significantly above’ US averages, the highest rating category.  Internationally, Sage students scored on level with students in the highest performing regions in the world (Shanghai China, Korea, Japan). These are impressive results indicating Sage students are prepared to thrive in today’s global society.

IRI (Idaho Reading Indicator): Kindergarten through Third Grade students in Idaho take the IRI.  IRI results show Sage students performing just above state averages and on par with area districts and charter schools during their Kindergarten and First grade years. By third grade, Sage students significantly outperform state averages and outperform the Boise District, West Ada and other area charter schools. We are pleased to see our students’ academic growth accelerating their peers as early as 2nd and 3rd grades. We are implementing strategies that we hope will result in this acceleration showing up in our kindergarten and first grade results.

2016 ISAT (Idaho Standards Achievement Test): Third through eleventh graders took the ISAT in 2016.  The ISAT tests Language and Math proficiency. ISAT results show Sage students performing significantly above state averages - typically 20%-30% higher. For example, 84% of Sage 7th graders tested Proficient/Advanced in Language while that figure was 50% statewide. In Math, 74% of Sage 7th graders tested Proficient/Advanced, while 42% is the statewide figure. Again, these are positive results showing solid academic performance.

We are pleased that testing results from the 2016 school year indicate students are learning, growing, and excelling at Sage. Well done Sage educators and students!
